Arp157 also contains the faint galaxy UGC957, but NGC520 is much more interesting. UGC957 (b18.0m, 1.2x0.9') is located NNW of NGC520 and north of a fainter field star (see DSS image).

Conditions in the target region: SQM-L 20.6 At 66x evenly bright, elongated, evident with averted vision. At 133x slight broadening toward the south end. The very faint extensions and the dark lane were not visible.

The eastern NGC474 already shows impressively concentric rings. On long time exposures very complex structures came to the fore.

NGC379: Already seen at 80x as small brightening. 200x: oval shape.
NGC380: Barely seen at 80x as small nebular with averted vision. 200x: round shape.
NGC383: Brightest member. At 80x round with slightly brighter core. Well visible with averted vision.
NGC384: Very small, compact. Intermittently seen with averted vision. It took a while to see this faint galaxy. Already glimpsed while observing nearby NGC385.
NGC385: Small, compact. Intermittently seen with averted vision. A bit brighter than NGC384.
